The Urban Rush Back To School
I made an appearance on Urban Rush on Shaw Channel 4 today to help hosts Mike and Fiona show off some of the things you could toss in the mix to add some fun to the back to campus season. Here's the gear I profiled:
If you want to make some new friends on the campus, then you need to make your room the social center of the building. A sleek tv and a Nintendo Wii are just the trick to get things done. The Sony Bravia 32" LCD HDTV is a great display with a crisp clear picture, while the Nintendo Wii (and perhaps the new Beatles Rock Band game?) is the best way to make sure you're everyone's new best friend. The Wii may not have the most stunning graphics or intricate game play, but it IS the most social platform on the market, easily making it the most fun and turning your dorm into karaoke central.
When it comes to getting things done in class, the HP Touchsmart series of netbooks are a great option. They're powerful and versatile showing off a swivel screen, a focus on a multimedia experience as well as a touchscreen. With gestures similar to the iPhone, the HP Touchsmart can also have it's screen folded down to turn it into a tablet for note taking.
The Palm Pre is the new sexy when it comes to mobile phones, and if you've been a Blackberry user in the past, or have elegantly mannered nails that are nimble on the keys, this phone is the perfect pairing of style and function.
Finally I recommended a Sunbeam counter top fridge as the final piece of back to school / back to work gear to get you prepared for fall. For the student that needs to stash a few cold pop for a late night study session, or the cubicley confined who just wants to be able to have soy milk in their office coffee without someone in accounting stealing it, this tiny little package is a bargain. It won't hold an entire grocery run or care package of lasagna from mom, but it will safely stow your lunch and some emergency supplies under your desk - where accounting can't reach it.
catch the buzz ... pass it on.
