Thanks Krypto! Yeah, the Hardware Score feature should be taken with a grain of salt...there are many variables that can impact performance (% of defrag, size of swap file, etc) but it's a great starting place. If your score is low, you probably don't want to crank up the Anti-aliasing and audio effects.

I like the alternate single update feature. When a developer registers their game with Microsoft, they forward updates to MS as well, and updates are delivered through MS servers system...so you don't have to keep track of all the patches from the various developer or publisher sites. Nice to have an official central repository.

Yeah, TV is getting stranger and stranger. The businesses don't seem to care about the viewer, just maintaining their business model.

I heard that by using anonymous proxy software, you can get some of the foreign TV websites to playback their content, but I've not tried it myself. It's far easier to rent/borrow DVDs from the library ;)

Visiting a tv program website is a good idea, but many of those US-based websites do not allow us folk in Canada to watch episodes on their sites, and block our IPs. Most of the Canadian networks are posting complete episodes of shows on their websites, but it is not every show of course, so there is a good chance a favorite program won't be available by that method.

Hi Tris!

I COMPLETELY agree with you about brining the turkey! No question this is the hands-down winning way to do a delicious and impressive turkey. Best ever turkey I ever made was brined in a bucket of coarse salt and orange juice and, I think... star anise. Anyway, that was then, this is now.

But if you want to talk cutting edge kitchen technology, I encourage you to check out the Thermomix kitchen appliance which is actually a multifunctional highly efficient 'robot' type machine engineered in Germany to the highest standards you could possibly imagine. It's really popular in Europe and now that there is a 110v model available for us, it's about to become popular here -- despite the extreme price tag that scares away the faint-of-heart. Those for whom food truly matters just know they gotta have one. Check it out on my blog and watch the little video I did for how to make a Chocolate Salami Then, when you are next in Victoria, email first, and drop by for a slice or two...

MMMmmmm.

Ciao,

Helene

@2canwidow,

Hmm, not sure where the 'right' section would be, but I'll give it a shot :)

I've got an 8GB iPod Touch myself, and for me 8GB is enough. I don't carry my entire music library around with me, nor do I download every new app, but I'm not frugal either. iPod games aren't really that large, so you can fit quite a few on the smallest iPod Touch, and it is possible to cycle apps and music from the laptop to the iPod using iTunes.

It really depends on what you *think* the needs of the system will be, similar to a computer purchase.

My rule of thumb is always get more storage than you think you need, somehow I always grow into the extra space, and am never running out.

Ever wish you could undo a particular driver or application installation? I have, recently in fact when I installed Adobe CS3 on my wife's Windows 7 /XP dual-boot computer. Something happened in that install that pooched the Flash plugin for Internet Explorer. It could have been a bad scene, except for a cool little feature of Windows 7, one that has been a part of the Windows OS since ME (so there was one good thing about ME).
